Signs You Need Furnace Maintenance Now!

furnace maintenance charlotte nc

With winter finally here, the time to check on the health and safety of your home’s furnace is now if you haven’t already done so. It is important to make sure that your home’s furnace has what it needs to see you and your family safely through the long winter months. Did you know that furnace maintenance is an easy way to keep your heater running well, both now and into the future? Many homeowners don’t even know that furnace maintenance is an option, let alone how much it could help avoid furnace repairs in the future.

Most of the time, furnace maintenance represents an optional service with many benefits. Sometimes, though, your furnace really needs maintenance! Here are some signs that you should call for maintenance as soon as possible.

You Don’t Have Any Heat

If your furnace won’t turn on, it’s time to call a furnace expert. Sometimes, some basic maintenance is all you need to get it running well again. We’ll take a look, do what needs to be done, and get your furnace functional again soon.

Your Energy Bills Keep Going Up

If you notice your heating bills are increasing faster than they usually do, it is probably an indicator that something is wrong in your system. We’ll work hard to get that efficiency back up so you won’t have to spend as much to stay warm this winter. Our furnace maintenance checklist goes over everything that has to do with how efficiently your furnace runs. Once we’re done, you may notice a major change in furnace function and have lower bills, too!

You Hear Strange Noises

Your furnace should not clang, bang, pop, squeal, whistle, or make any other strange noises. If you hear these, it’s time to have it looked at. You may just need to have the burners cleaned, the fuel lines cleared out or replaced, or have some other easy maintenance performed. Our team will find the source of the odd noises and fix the problem before it becomes a major issue.

Your Home’s Temperature Isn’t Consistent

You should be able to keep your entire home at the same temperature and maintain it for as long as you need to. If certain rooms are always hotter or colder than others or if you have to tinker with the thermostat a lot to find the right settings, it’s time to have your heater inspected and maintained.

You Need Frequent Furnace Repairs

Every furnace is going to need repairs at some point during its lifetime, but if you find yourself constantly having to shell out for repairs to your furnace just to keep it running, your can get ahead of the game by amping up the amount of HVAC maintence you recieve. That said, once repair costs begin piling up, we recommend talking to us about replacing your current system, instead.

Your Carbon Monoxide Detector Goes Off

Carbon monoxide buildup can be dangerous. If you have a detector installed (and you should!) and it goes off, turn off the heater, vacate the premises, and call the fire department and an HVAC expert ASAP. We’ll clean out your heater, find out why there’s too much carbon monoxide, and get your heat back on fast.

Additionally, If you and your family suddenly start experiencing flu-like symptoms, even though you haven’t been exposed to anyone sick, you need to open as many doors and windows as possible, get outside, and call in a professional heating technician to inspect your furnace. Low level carbon monoxide exposure can have these same symptoms, and if your furnace has cracks, it could be leaking this toxic gas into your home.

Your System is Old

A properly installed furnace will last you between 10 and 15 years depending on how well it has been maintained over that time frame. Any older than that, and you might start to notice that it doesn’t run as efficiently as it used to and that it needs more frequent repairs. When either of these signs start popping up, it may be past time for maintenance time to start looking around for a new furnace. If this is true for you, don’t worry!
